Can I Change Screenmode via startup-sequence?

Basically I have an A600 with a Vampire 2 on board, and at a recently (amazing!) Amiga Users Ireland meet up I had the Amiga displaying on a LCD screen via the HDMI output, looked great! However, that particular screenmode is not supported by my crappy LCD tv at home.  So I’m stuck with a blank screen via RGB and an unsupported HDMI screen mode, I’m blind!  I can access the early start-up menu via RGB, so what I’m wondering is can I change RGB screenmode or revert to default mode via startup-sequence?  I’m using ClassicWB 3.9, thanks in advance!

Hello 🙂 You can delete the preferences file from the Shell prompt, which will make Workbench start up in the default PAL RGB mode. Go into the early startup menu as you did before and select the “Boot with no Startup-Sequence” option. This will give you a Shell prompt on the default screenmode. At the prompt, type:

Delete ENVARC:sys/screenmode.prefs

This will remove the file storing the incompatible screen mode. Reboot the machine and you should boot into the default 4-colour PAL Workbench on RGB – ugly, but it works! Clicking Save in the Screenmode preferences program will create a new screenmode.prefs file containing your new settings.
